Chicken Cobbler | Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts

This is my take on the viral TikTok chicken cobbler topped with fluffy Cheddar Bay biscuits. I can confirm, it more than lives up to the hype! This is an easy one-pan chicken dinner packed with flavor and veggies, perfect for weeknights.

You’ve gotta love an easy TikTok casserole recipe! And if you haven’t tried them yet, also check out this viral boat dip, grinder salad, and Marry Me Chicken pasta.

You’ve likely heard of desserts like cherry cobbler before, but wait until you try this savory, TikTok-inspired chicken cobbler! This chicken cobbler actually reminds me a lot of my chicken pot pie casserole, with a few minor differences. Mainly, it’s topped with a thick layer of Red Lobster biscuit mix, and there’s no need to bake the filling and biscuits separately! As the cobbler bakes, the creamy gravy “magically” sinks below the biscuits to create a rich, savory filling loaded with chicken and veggies. There’s a reason this recipe went viral, it’s just SO easy!

What Makes This Chicken Cobbler So Special

  • Easy ingredients. This approachable recipe has everything I look for in a cozy chicken casserole: juicy chicken and vegetables, a silky gravy, and a fluffy, buttery Cheddar Bay biscuit topping. It’s a major plus that I often have everything I need already in the fridge or pantry.
  • One pan. There’s no need to prepare the chicken filling before adding it to the baking dish. You can assemble and bake the layers right in the pan!
  • Cozy, creamy comfort food. At the end of a long day, nothing compares to a hot and bubbly chicken cobbler that takes hardly any effort.

Ingredients You’ll Need

These are the ingredients you’ll need for this easy chicken cobbler recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card after the post for the printable ingredients list and full recipe details.

  • Butter – I use unsalted butter, but salted butter works, too.
  • Chicken – You can use any cooked chicken you have on hand. Leftover whole chicken or a rotisserie chicken from the store is great in this recipe. You can also cook a quick batch of air fried chicken breasts. Shred or dice up the chicken, whichever you prefer.
  • Frozen Vegetables – I use the classic chicken pot pie medley of diced carrots, sweet corn, peas, and green beans.
  • Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix – You’ll find Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay Biscuit box mix in many major grocery stores. Otherwise, choose your favorite box of dry biscuit mix.
  • Milk – Any kind, to combine with the biscuit mix.
  • Cheddar Cheese – Freshly shredded. You could also use another shreddable cheese, like Gouda, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack.
  • Chicken Broth – Feel free to substitute vegetable broth instead.
  • Cream of Chicken Soup – If you’d prefer to replace canned condensed soup with homemade, try my cream of chicken soup recipe.
  • Garlic Powder – You could also swap in 2-4 fresh garlic cloves (as many to taste) if preferred.

How to Make the TikTok Chicken Cobbler

Let’s make the internet-famous one-pan chicken cobbler! You’ll find a quick overview of the steps here. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card for the printable instructions.

  • Melt the butter. While the oven preheats to 375ºF, add your butter to a baking dish and place that into the oven to melt.
  • Add the chicken and veggies. Once the butter has melted, you’re ready to assemble the casserole. Start by spreading your chopped or shredded chicken pieces over top, followed by a layer of mixed frozen vegetables. Don’t mix!
  • Make the biscuit layer. Meanwhile, add the biscuit mix (plus the seasoning packet) to a bowl with milk and shredded cheddar. Give that a good stir before pouring it over the veggie layer. Use a spatula to gently spread it.
  • Add the remaining ingredients. Now, you’ll whisk the chicken broth with cream of chicken soup and garlic powder. Pour this over the biscuit batter. Once again, do not mix.
  • Bake! This chicken cobbler goes into the oven at 375ºF for 45-50 minutes until the crust bakes up golden and the filling is nice and bubbly. Afterward, let it cool and minute, and enjoy.

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • DO NOT MIX! The magic in this recipe happens when the biscuit and soup layers swap places while the cobbler bakes, no mixing necessary. You end up with the flaky, flavorful biscuit topping and a rich, creamy pot pie-style filling underneath. Trust the process!
  • How to tell when it’s done: This chicken cobbler is done when the biscuit layer is completely baked through and golden, and the chicken filling is hot and bubbly underneath.
  • Don’t overwork the biscuit batter. Too much mixing can lead to a dense, tough crust on the finished cobbler.
  • Different veggies. In place of frozen vegetables, you can use any veggies you have in the fridge. Casseroles are a great way to use up leftover cooked broccoli, green beans, carrots, etc. You could also add in greens, like spinach or kale.
  • Substitute the chicken. Diced baked ham is a good substitute for chopped chicken in this recipe, or you can substitute leftover turkey or pulled pork.

Serving Suggestions

This baked chicken cobbler is a dream to make on weeknights. It leaves my hands free to make a side of mashed potatoes or rice in the Instant Pot while the cobbler is in the oven. We also love this creamy chicken casserole served with garlic bread, a fresh and crunchy BLT salad, or a veggie side, like air fryer Brussels sprouts

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

  • Refrigerate. Store any leftover chicken cobbler covered airtight in the fridge for up to 3 days. The topping tends to get a little soggy over time, but the flavors are still delicious.
  • Reheat. I recommend reheating this cobbler in a 350ºF oven as it helps crisp up the biscuit topping again. Otherwise, you can use the microwave in a pinch.
  • Preheat oven to 375º F.

  • Place butter in 13×9 inch baking pan and place it in the oven as it preheats. Leave in there until the butter has melted.

  • Once the butter has melted remove from the oven.

  • Spread the chicken evenly over the butter. Spread the vegetables evenly over the chicken (Do NOT mix).

  • In a bowl mix together biscuit mix including the seasoning packet, milk, and cheddar cheese. Pour over the top of the vegetables. Gently spread in an even layer, being careful not to mix it together.

  • Combine chicken broth, cream of chicken soup and garlic powder and pour over the biscuit mixture. (Do NOT mix).

  • Place in the oven for 45-50 minutes until the crust is golden and completely set and the filling is hot and bubbly. Remove from the oven and let cool for just a minute or two before serving.

  • Do not mix. The layers swap places as they bake, so you end up with the biscuit topping and the chicken pot pie-like filling underneath.
  • You can use homemade cream of chicken soup in place of canned if you prefer.
